Story
On the 6th October 2021, I lost my incredible husband, Kenny, to bowel cancer. A disease he'd so bravely been fighting for over 10 years. In the nearly 8 years I had known him I was in constant awe of his strength and determination to beat this horrible disease, time and time again. With each diagnosis, he was ready for the fight and continued to fight like the warrior he was right until the very end. I will never get over his valiant mentality and am so grateful for the motivation it gives me through my own dark days. It will most certainly be my motivation for completing this 13-mile run!
Since his very first diagnosis in 2011 he had participated in many fundraising events helping to support many charities, including Bowel Cancer UK, Macmillan, and most recently NHS Charities Together, whilst enduring cancer treatment through lockdown. I aim to follow in his footsteps to help raise vital funds and have this year signed up for a number of events, with the Great North Run being the most challenging so far.
Bowel Cancer UK fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease, and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care. They have one aim and that's to stop people dying of bowel cancer. The charity relies on voluntary donations and without the help of those generous donations they wouldn't be able to carry out the work they do in order to save lives.
I understand times are tough financially for many people right now but if you could spare a few pounds I would be forever grateful!
