In memory of mum and celebrating with thanks my brother Simon's recovery.

Thanks for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation for their great work and the difference their work has made to our family and many others. Indeed I will be joined by my son and husband on race day and we'd be so grateful for your support. 

It is just over three and a half years since mum passed away from heart disease. It doesn't get any easier but we have some fantastic memories and are grateful for the precious time spent together; fair to say she was a marvellous lady much loved in our local village where, the cafe she ran most of her working life, Vera's cafe, still appears on google maps!  A determined woman, her resilience kept her going even though her frustration as to what she could do as her condition deteriorated was clear. One night, as my brother passed A & E to visit her, he suffered severe coughing and breathing difficulties. Thanks to the quick action of hospital staff he was blue lighted to Leeds for immediate  heart surgery. We later discovered he had developed an aortic aneurism following earlier surgery as a child. A condition with few warning signs and that can often have fatal consequences. The timing was a blessing and the work by the cardiac and vascular teams phenomenal . We are very lucky to have him with us and to have benefited from pioneering work - we also want to share awareness of this condition. 

The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to fundraising like this that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target.

This will be quite some distance for me (particularly in post lockdown condition!) so your encouragement and kind donations will be a great incentive and much appreciated. Let's hope I can run with mum's determination to raise well needed funds and don't forget it's a family affair so please support Mike and Adam too.  Thanks!
