Story
My sister Jackie was my best friend and my support through life's ups and downs.
She was diagnosed with terminal cancer and battled through breast, bone, stomach and colon cancer and the associated medical proceedures and treatments for many years and passed away suddenly in September 2019.
Jackie leaves behind her two girls Priya (32) and Jorja (15). Her biggest worry in all of this has been their wellbeing and future.
I have struggled to process Jackies passing, searching for some meaning for all the worry, pain and misery she suffered for so long. Not least the physical and psychological distress but also the financial pressure. She continued to work for a long time through her treatments but ultimately did not have the strength and was at the mercy of the disability system which required her to jump through so many hoops on an ongoing basis resulting in so much stress, uncertainty and worry. A terminal diagnosis give you no respite from the continued financial assessments.
My sister never gave up. She pushed through it all; every new diagnosis, painful treatment and the toll they all took on her body.
Jackie loved St Catherine's Hospice and that's the reason I have chosen to have my head shaved to raise funds for them.
I can't thank them enough for the care and support they provided to us and my sister.
