Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. I think most of you are aware of the reason as to why we run for "Bloodwise".....just a brief bit on our background for those who don't know. Steve and I were due to marry in 1991 at St. Mary's Church Portsmouth but due to a relapse of Leukaemia Steve had a Bone Marrow transplant at The Royal Marsden London. Steve developed pneumonia and wasn't strong enough to fight it off. We were Married on 4th July 1990 at The Royal Marsden Hospital with approval from the Archbishop Of Canterbury. 5th July 1990 he died with myself and his family at his bedside. He was just 20 years old. I was 19 years old.
Gary had got to know Steve very well at the Portsmouth Dockyard where they were both apprentices......Gary has many tales of the laughter the year group had together. After Steve died Gary and I met up a few times to just talk things through etc. Over time we became good friends and Gary helped me through some very dark days. Saturday 31.07.1993. We were married at The Holy Spirit Portsmouth and 24 years later and two wonderful boys we are as strong as ever. Some people didn't approve of our relationship and others thought our marriage would never last. But here we are today training hard together to run another Half Marathon in Memory of Steve who we both lost to this awful disease. And this is why "Bloodwise" is close to our hearts.
