On the 22nd of April I will be running the London Marathon, I know what your thinking and your right, ‘I’m not a runner’ !!
However as many of you know my beautiful niece Lucy Rose was born with Retinoblastoma, this is a rare form of cancer that rapidly develops from the immature cells of a retina, the light detecting part of the eye.
This disease usually affects children under 5, although it can affect children at any age. About 40-50 cases of Retinoblastoma are diagnosed in the UK each year.
Because this cancer is so rare this went undiagnosed until Lucy was 14 weeks old, it’s thanks to her parents that this was picked up!
Over the first few years or Lucy’s life she went through all sorts of treatments from chemotherapy to at just a few years old going through the ordeal of having her right eye removed.
Lucy is now 6 years old, she is the most happy, kind loving, beautiful little diva you will ever meet! Her strength and constant smile is what has encouraged me to take on this challenge.
CHECT have supported Lucy’s parents, Lucy and her two brothers George and Tom through the toughest years of their such young lives and for that I want to show my support back to this Charity and raise awareness of this rare disease.
