Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. For both challenges I will be paying my own costs, so every penny donated will go directly to the Jersey Women's Refuge.
Challenge 1: The John Muir Trail, Yosemite
The first of the challenges is over a 3 week period at the end of August/beginning of September 2012, where I am aiming to complete the whole of the John Muir Trail in Yosemite.
The John Muir Trail is a long-distance trek through the backcountry and wilderness of the Sierra Nevada mountain range of California, running 211 miles between the northern terminus at Happy Isles in Yosemite Valley and the southern terminus located on the summit of Mount Whitney at 4,421m. The Trail has a total elevation gain of 14,000m and a total descent of just over 12,000m and crosses 6 mountain passes in excess of 3,400m.
We will be camping along the Trail, carrying kit in excess of 25lbs each.
Challenge 2: Everest Base Camp, Nepal
The second challenge is over a 2 week period in early March 2013, where I am aiming to trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal.
Everest Base Camp is at 5,364m and is reached by trekking over very difficult and rocky terraine with day time temperatures peaking at around 30ºC, dropping to -15ºC at night. We will be staying in tea houses for most of the trek, but will have some nights when we will be camping on the snow and ice.
