Story
Well, there we were, 3 hours on a hot sunny day in May - it was tough going, but WE DID IT!!! More than 100 people turned up for the Spin-a-Thon to raise money for The Shooting Star Children's Hospice. There were 8 in our group, with 5 of us from GSK. I have to say, itt was a pretty amazing day!
The first hour was quite enjoyable actually, as everyone was hyped up, full of energy, and raring to go. The music was pumping, the sun was shining and legs and bums felt good at this point! Luckily we had managed to get bikes in the shade (the event was held in an outdoor courtyard), however, the shade only lasted for an hour and then it was full on sunshine.
The second hour was pretty horrendous - psychologically you know you still have another full hour to go after this one, so it feels like you will be cycling forever. Plus it was getting hotter & hotter, heading to that mid-day sun! Everyone seemed to go quiet, and were in their own zones, just trying to concentrate on keeping going!
But eventually the third hour arrived and, with 30 mins to go, everyone seemed to get a huge burst of energy, the music & noise levels went up and you could feel the excitement that the end was nearly nigh! We even managed to sprint flat out for the final 15-20 mins. Then the final count down, and a huge cheer went up!
All in all, it was a tough but fun day, with lots of money having been rasied for this fantastic charity. I don't know the total yet, but I will let you know in due course.
