The Arthritis Research Campaign  (arc) is the major provider of funding for research into arthritis and related musculoskeletal diseases in the UK. They aim to advance the understanding, prevention and treatment of arthritis and associated rheumatic conditions in order to encourage the provision of improved clinical care for patients.

The arc fund my phd research into a common and devastating autoimmune disease - Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS). The patients suffer with arthritis in their spine, which can lead to eventual fusion of the spinal joints by new bone formation. This disease affects over 200,000 people in the UK alone, I have friends with AS and have met several patients. I really want to make a difference in helping the lives of the sufferers, and give hope for an eventual cure. My lab works on trying to explain the cause of AS and Rhuematoid Arthritis.

The arc are a great charity to work with! The arc people I meet and regularly speak to are so friendly and helpful - I want to give something back to the charity.
