Story

We knew nothing of cystic fibrosis until last year when routine newborn screening identified that our beautiful four week old son, Rory, had the condition. Subsequent blood tests on our older twin children confirmed that our wonderful two-and-a-bit year old son, Sam, had the same genes, and therefore had CF too.

Needless to say, getting this news was devastating at first, but what can you do? You play the hand you're dealt.

Thankfully, both boys are the very epitome of health. Though they have to go through a prophylactic regime of antibiotics and chest physio, and attend regular hospital appointments, thus far they have no CF symptoms, and given their specific genotype, the prognosis is very good that their condition will be mild and that they will remain strong and healthy.

Others with this condition aren't so lucky. For people with classic CF, life is extremely challenging, and many don't live past their early forties.

That's where you come in. The CF Trust works hard to support people with CF, and ultimately seeks to find a cure. The science has come on leaps and bounds in recent decades, so who knows what medicine will be able to do when Sam and Rory are adults. Anything you can donate to help the CF Trust in its work is hugely appreciated.
