What I'm doing
Now many of you will know that I love skiing and have a thing about mountains - especially Mont Blanc and Everest. Now don't worry, I'm not about to climb Everest (although it is the season to do so), but I am going to combine my enthusiasm for mountains and skiing by attempting to ski the length of the height of Mont Blanc at Glen Coe. Mont Blanc is Europe's highest mountain at 4,810 metres, and to ski the equivalent involves skiing Glen Coe's main basin 20 times. I will be doing this on Sunday 25th April in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and it would be great if you could sponsor me to do so - either per run or for the whole thing.
Now while some of you may be asking why this is a hardship or a challenge and why you should sponsor me to do something that seems so much fun - the answer to that lies in the small matter of what comes down must have gone up first. To descend the main basin 20 times I have to ascend, how does one ascend the main basin? By t-bars. This is the challenge, I really detest t-bars and have a habit of falling off them at most inconvenient moments. They also leave sore bums so I strongly suspect I will be sitting on a soft cushion for most of next week. So if you don't want me to sponsor me to ski down the equivalent of Mt Blanc how about sponsoring me to ascend the equivalent of Mt Blanc by t-bar? There is 1 further challenges that will need to be overcome: I have to get up and be ready to leave Glasgow at 5.45am. This is something in itself which I feel is worthy of sponsorship.
Why I want to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support Like more and more people, you may know of a loved one who has been diagnosed. One in three people are affected by cancer. Macmillan Cancer Support wants to be there for everyone who needs our help by providing them with the emotional, practical, medical and financial support they need. At the moment, Macmillan reach one in two people. We need to raise more money so we can provide the services that will help everyone living with cancer. Every penny raised by me skiing on Sunday will help Macmillan Cancer Support to take huge steps towards reaching our ambition of helping everyone who needs our support. § £40 could fund the Macmillan CancerLine for two hours, helping people affected by cancer get the information and advice they need § £184 could fund a Macmillan nurse for one day, helping people living with cancer receive the care and support they need § £220 could fund the production of 1,000 copies of The Cancer Guide, a booklet which provides information about cancer, its treatment and care, and lists helpful organisations.
