Story
Pancreatic cancer takes the lives of 26 people every day. Unfortunately the majority of people are diagnosed with stage 3 or 4, simply because the symptoms are usually not apparent early, can be confused with less serious pathologies and lack of education amongst healthcare professionals. My wonderful father in law, Chris was diagnosed in September 2019 after a few months of symptoms which were misdiagnosed as IBS. Before we could even come to terms with this horrific diagnosis, Chris passed away in October 2019. We literally saw the strong man we knew fade away within weeks, in unimaginable pain and discomfort. He left behind his wife, sons, grandchildren, family and friends who miss him terribly.
Pancreatic action cancer UK is purely devoted to saving lives through early diagnosis and in time for surgery, currently the only potential cure. They raise public awareness of pancreatic cancer and its symptoms, education and awareness training for healthcare professionals and campaign and lobby the government and key stake holders for change. This early detection will save the lives of so many.
