Story
When the opportunity to go to Ethiopia and raise money for these very relevant charities came up I thought Yes without hesitation. I have never done any of this type of fund raising challenge before but this one really struck a chord. Not least because of my love of walking and the stunning scenery we will be trekking through in the Simien Mountains in Ethiopia, but more importantly both the Urology Foundation and Wellbeing of Women have significant resonance for me. As some of you will know I have seen two people close to me have a nasty brush with prostate cancer. Thankfully with the skills of amazing surgeons they have both come out of it the other side, somewhat battered and bruised but able to go on embracing all that life has to offer. As for the Wellbeing of Women, we all know someone, or someone's mother, who is affected by either gynaecological or obstetric conditions, and the chances are we might need support ourselves one day. Tragically we probably all know someone who hasn't pulled through too, notably for me darling Katie Compson who never got a chance to be a mother after cancer stole her far too soon at 33. Katie has her own Foundation raising money for the Royal Marsden in her memory but I couldn't be raising money for Wellbeing of Women without her bravery being at the forefront of my mind. I should also say that I am funding the actual cost of my wonderful adventure myself so that any money you might choose to donate will go straight to the charities.
With love and thanks X
