Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have suffered with Crohn's since a major op in 2006 removed an abcess and a large part of my bowel. Since then I have a daily battle with eating and food. In recent years I have tried so hard to work on my fitness with my boyfriends (Gavin) help. (Crohn's robs you of all your energy.) We have completed bike rides and runs (I walked!) for other charities, and wondered why we couldn't do something for Crohn's. It became clear that a lot of the fundraising for Crohn's is done in capital cities, and that there isn't much support locally. So I decided that with Gavin's help we could participate in a huge event, in an effort to raise funds and awareness of Crohn's on my doorstep. So the idea was born to do the London Triathlon. Firstly I was just going to do the fundraising and get Gavin to do the whole thing. But I had begun swimming regularly and felt that I could at least do the swim. After finding out that we could do it as a two team relay, there was no stopping me. So I will complete the 750m swim, and Gavin will do the 20km bike ride and 5km run.
The charity NACC (National Association of Crohn's and Colitis) aims to help crohn's sufferers and their families, by giving information, phone support, and a support network of people who have, or are going through similar things to sufferers. As this condition can be very isolating, this is an essential form of support. A lot of sufferers find their symptoms so embarrassing, they will suffer in silence.
Please help to support us in our quest. I am not a sporty person, but will give 100% to anything I commit to.
Thanks
