Story
I am running my first ever marathon on the 15th of October and using it as a fundraising opportunity for a great cause! After many months of training, a few injury setbacks and fears I may not be able to run, I am at last very happy to be able to set up this page.
For the last year and a bit I have been volunteering as a trustee for the Tom Ap Rhys Memorial Trust (also known as Tom’s Trust)
In January 2006, Tom Ap Rhys Pryce was stabbed and killed on the way home by two teenagers in a random act of senseless violence. Tom's Trust was established in his memory to help address the underlying causes of his tragic death and turn it into something positive and lasting.
The Trust assists disadvantaged children and young people to achieve their potential and to lead rewarding lives by providing them with educational and vocational training opportunities which they would otherwise be unlikely to receive, and helps to tackle and prevent the root causes of youth violence and street crime. It works with around 20 highly effective organisations across London which succeed in making lasting changes to the lives of difficult-to-reach young people growing up in challenging circumstances.
Since I joined, I have had the privilege of seeing first hand the incredible work of these organisations in supporting young people of all ages across the city of London.
More details about the Trust can be found at www.tomaprhyspryce.com.
Sadly, the work that Tom's Trust does is as relevant now as it ever has been.
A donation to Tom's Trust is a particularly efficient way of helping to address the serious issues that lie behind its foundation. The Trust has no administration charges, is purely volunteer run, and works hard to find effective charities which make a demonstrable impact in their area.
With the current cost of living crisis, charities across the country are experiencing additional challenges with raising funds so anything you can give will be gratefully received.
Thank you so much for reading and for your donations! I look forward to updating you with a post-run selfie!
