Story
On the 30th April 2023, I will be in Sierra Leone taking on the world’s craziest marathon – Street Child’s Sierra Leone Marathon - over 42 kilometres of tropical jungle and local villages, in 30 degree heat & 90% humidity. I am doing it to raise money for Street Child – a charity that aims to increase access to education for kids. During my trip I will have the unique opportunity to see exactly where the funds will go and meet the communities helped by Street Child.
Street Child works with families and local communities to overcome barriers to learning - by building local projects and economies, and focusing on ensuring that children are safe, in school and learning. Their intent is to create a sustainable future for these communities, allowing them to take progress into their own hands and building businesses empowering others to do the same.
The Sierra Leone marathon is an annual event held by Street Child, and has played a crucial part in helping Street Child grow from their first project in rural Sierra Leone to now working in over 20 countries worldwide.
I have committed to raising a minimum of USD1500 to help Street Child carry on the work they have been doing in Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone is one of the world's poorest countries, having been brought to its knees by a savage civil war and then devasted again with the Ebola outbreak. 100% of your donations will be going to the projects being carried out in the country.
