Story
I have a personal reason for wanting to undertake this challenge. In October 2021 I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. It was quite the shock. We don’t have any history of breast cancer in the family and I have young children, keep quite fit and healthy so thought, this cannot happen, my kids are too young. I’m too young, etc etc.. I just never expected to have cancer, how naive was I !!
Four surgeries, 8 rounds of chemotherapy later and I’m happy to say I’m here to tell the tale, thank god!! I know I have actually been very lucky to have found the lump when I did and be treated, and now be cancer free. Going through this experience has been very humbling, from going through those doors to the chemo ward, losing my hair, worrying about life ever being the same again. I was amazed at how amazing people can be and how kind and supportive the nurses, doctors, counselors, friends and family have been.
It’s been a roller coaster to say the least and I want to inspire and give hope to others going through the same thing.
I’m having ongoing medication to ensure it doesn’t come back, and I’ve an excellent prognosis. I want to challenge myself and help raise funds for more research into treatments and cures for all cancers with Cancer Research Wales.
