Story
Anyone that knows me will know that Type 1 Diabetes has had a huge impact on my husband's family. In the mid 1970s his sister was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2. Then in his early teens my husband was also diagnosed with type 1.
Unfortunately, my sister-in-law had many complications over the years, leading to an amputation, kidney transplant, sight loss and neurological problems. This year, at the age of 48 and despite being the most resilient person I know, she lost her battle having lived with diabetes for 46 of her 48 years.
This was devastating for the family and has an impact on my husband living with the same disease. His biggest fear in life is for our children to also suffer with diabetes. There is so much important research going on all the time, and I hope that if ever Diabetes strikes again in
our family that it won't have such a life limiting impact.
I am not a natural runner but have set myself the challenge of running the 2023 London Marathon in memory of Ann, to raise money for JDRF a cause that is so close to my heart.
