Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Joan, I am in my 60`s and live on a farm near Chiddingfold. During early lock-down I took my daily exercise checking the sheep and walking through our woods but this very soon extended to a regular six mile round trip to the supermarkets of Haslemere. This was not unlike my early childhood in Fisher Lane as my parents had no car and our shopping was in either Chiddingfold, Plaistow or Dunsfold and was always done on foot.
My faith is important to me and the idea of a journey where the difficulties of each day were supported by a verse or passage prompted me to sign up for a Virtual Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Northern Spain.
After a few weeks of building up my daily miles I officially commenced my 480 mile journey on the 4th July when Rotary opened up their community PEP pop up shop in West St Haslemere.
Since then I have tried to walk about 12 - 15 miles a day for six days a week, with every walk having some significance or purpose. This has included a cross country walk to Farnham to visit my daughter and a circuit of my childhood shopping walks with Mum. Most days will include some special place or space for reflection and every day is logged and ticked off my virtual challenge .Unfortunately I will now have to plan an extra walking trip to the Chiropodist as after two weeks and nearly 200 miles my walking boots and toes are starting to disagree.
I have a number of friends and acquaintances who have been seriously impacted physically, emotionally and financially by Corona virus and I felt compelled to support the local community in some way. This year, Haslemere Rotary are fundraising for the local Food Banks and also Haslemere Stroke Club so were the ideal focus for my fundraising efforts.
Please help me support the work of these vital local charities.
Thankyou
Joan Mills
