Story
The last 14 months have been extremely challenging ones for my family; in particular, my son Rob, his wife Jennie and their daughter Sophie. Sophie was born prematurely and has faced significant health issues over her short life so far (you can read more about Sophie’s story so far on Rob’s page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/shsmrhenderson).
Having read Rob’s story about what the three of them have gone through, I am completely in awe of how they have coped.
I honestly believe they would not have been able to get through the last 14 months without the incredible care, support and love of all the staff who have been involved with them at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
As a parent and step parent of 3 very healthy children it has been immensely hard to watch my son and daughter-in-law go through such a traumatic journey.
Sophie is doing remarkably well, considering all she has to deal with and still has a long way to go. She will be involved with the hospital for the foreseeable future.
When Rob told me he was going to do the Inca Trail Trek, I decided that the best way I could show my thanks to the fantastic staff at Sheffield Children’s Hospital and the support they have given my son’s incredible family, was to do the Trek with him!
So I’ve signed up to 10 days away from home and my supportive husband, Graham. We’ll be walking 52 km over 5 days - walking 5-7 hours each day, going up to a maximum height of 4,200 m on day 3 (altitude sickness awaits). We’ll be sleeping in tents and carrying our own day packs! BUT I am honestly really looking forward to being out of my comfort zone for this amazing cause.
Any support you could give would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
