Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Several months ago (in a moment of madness, whilst watching the London marathon on the TV, under a blanket, on the sofa, drinking a coffee), I thought it would be a great idea to sign up for some kind of physical challenge. Those of you who've known me for any length of time will know that this isn't something that comes naturally to me at all. However, what I lack in aptitude I make up for in stubbornness.
As a result, on the 9th April, I'll be undertaking a 50km "ultra walk" starting in Windsor. I have decided to do this in aid of the charity Guide Dogs For The Blind.
When I did my Master's a couple of years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful Dasher (and his human, Vicky). It was the first time I've got to know a guide dog and see him in action, and I saw first hand the impact that he had on Vicky's life. Dasher provided so much more than mere companionship and, like all guide dogs, he enabled a level of independence and security that so many of us take for granted.
Unfortunately, due to ill-health, Dasher has had to take early retirement and is now living the high life, back on his puppy walker's sofa. While this had an immediate impact on Vicky, she is not the only person in this situation. The work these guide dogs do is so valuable and they make a huge difference, but the demand for guide dogs exceeds the supply.
Every day, 250 people in the UK start to lose their sight. By sponsoring me, you'll be helping Guide Dogs to make sure that people living with sight loss don't lose their freedom as well. Every penny raised goes towards helping Guide Dogs provide life-changing services for people with sight loss.
