Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
A few months ago some friends and I were sat having a very late brekkie in a cafe in Salisbury. We were discussing the night out the previous day and generally putting the world to rights when the subject of marathons came up. Running a marathon is something I have always wanted to do, and yet something I have never got around to actually doing... Sat reading the papers and drinking coffee it was very easy to agree to the challenge! Later that day we signed up to run Amsterdam!
And so the training began. Now, each year I've watched the London Marathon on TV and this year I went to support Mitch run it too. Watching the many thousands of people taking part, all shapes and sizes, and even in fancy dress regalia I remember genuinely thinking if they can do it, then surely so can I?? I mean how hard can it really be?! Hmmm. As it turns out: VERY HARD. The commitment to training over such a long period of time is unlike anything I've ever put myself through. Going out on the "long runs" and fitting in interval work and steady runs alongisde day-to-day life is really, really difficult and NEVER will I look at the London runners with the same thoughts again!
The timing of the Marathon conincides perfectly for fund-raising for my chosen charity Help In Suffering. I am going out to India in November and will be doing some voluntary work at the Clinic. The work that HIS carries out is amazing and their successes with the Rabies vaccination programme and Animal Birth Control (ABC) speak for themselves.
