Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2013 I lost my Dad to a debilitating chronic lung disease Acute Extrinsic Allergic Alveolitis or more commonly known as Farmer's Lung. For most of his life he was a fit and healthy market gardener and due to being mis-diagnosed as having asthma he continued to work with the plants and in the environment that would eventually cost him his life.
He bravely battled this awful disease, never once complaining despite long hospital stays, eventually becoming dependent on oxygen and struggling to do simple tasks he used to take for granted. I once asked him what I could do for him and he replied "I just want new lungs" So this is my way of giving "new lungs" to others where hopefully it is not too late.
Dad loved watching the London Marathon on TV every year and I am so excited to be given the opportunity to run this historic event for him. In times of importance in our lives he would say "Remember you're a Butler" so here I go Dad......I'm remembering I'm a Butler and I'm determined to do you proud!
So running is tough and I’m no natural athlete! Having now completed 2 half marathons where I wanted to collapse at the end I have no idea how I’ll get there, but I’ve never been so excited. I have a winter ahead of me full of dark, cold training runs and I’ll need every little bit of support and encouragement from my friends and family to do this
I would be so very grateful for any donations, big or small, to this amazing charity, they do endless work to research lung conditions, support families and ease the suffering for so many people. Compared to other charities they receive far less donations, so anything you can give will be so appreciated. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate what an amazing Dad I had and would be overwhelmed to smash my fundraising total. Thank you x
