Story
My sister Annie had lung cancer, the first signs were misdiagnosed as shoulder pains due to sitting at a computer all day. Her eventual diagnosis was too late.
Cancer can be merciless. All your energy is needed to try to get well and to get through the assault course of treatments.
Annie called her Macmillan nurse her guardian Angel. Her and her partner received invaluable practical help when they really needed it, when they didn’t have time or energy to find help...Macmillan was there.
They were even there at the end, finding a place in a hospice where she passed away with her family and friends around her. The hospice meant she got all the care she needed and we were free to enjoy our last weeks together, precious time I will cherish forever.
‘When did you last really laugh?’
‘With my sister, feeding her pea soup when she was high on morphine .’ She died surrounded by the sound of people who loved her, sitting in her room talking and laughing.
