In May 2017 Nicky was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Nicky's case qualified to participate in a trial, funded by Cancer Research UK which offered a potentially even more effective treatment.  Her children Georgie, 9, and James, 6, along with her sister Jen wanted to do something to help raise money for this charity which is essential to improving treatments for cancer. They decided to combine their love of ponies and cakes and organise their own 2017 Ride for Research at Tannoch Stables, adding a bake sale on the day of the event ,Saturday 23rd September.
