Story
On the 30th March, my dear friend Mhairi MacDonald passed away. She had been ill and was in hospital, but her death was a tragic and unanticipated event that has shocked her friends and family to the core.
Mhairi was, without shadow of a doubt, the most remarkable woman I have ever known. And I know that many others who knew her feel the same way. Mhairi lost her sight some ten years ago and whilst it never stopped her doing exactly what she wanted and needed to do, it was a wonderful moment when she got Zaide, her handsome devil of a guide dog.
They say that the puppies are matched to the person in guide dog training and they absolutely got it right with Mhairi and Zaide. He is a regal beauty, but even as a puppy, he had a kind and wise face. Perfect for Mhairi, who knew so much and helped so many of us over the years. Zaide was a real limelight hogger though, and no matter where he went, people loved him (much like Mhairi and the people who's lives she touched).
I would love to raise as much money as possible so that we can get as many Zaides out into the world as possible, so that others who can no longer see, can experience the independence, love and companionship that Mhairi and Zaide had. Please dig deep and give whatever you can.
I am taking part in the sponsored walk that's good for the sole! The challenge is to walk 100,000 steps in my chosen week of May and raise at least £100 for Guide Dogs that's just 1p per step! The sponsorship money you help me raise really will make a difference. Just £95 could buy a training school kit for one guide dog trainer who will teach pups the special skills they need as fully qualified guide dog. Go on help me knock my socks off!
