Story
Jamie, John and Alan are taking on the 2022 Inca Trail Trek from Cusco to Machu Picchu to raise much needed funds for the Children’s Hospital Charity in Sheffield.
In January 2019, shortly before her 2nd birthday, Jamie found out that his daughter, Alice has a ‘mass’ in her abdomen and that mass was cancer, she was seriously ill. Following 3-4 weeks of tests it showed Alice had a rare and aggressive form of cancer, High-risk Neuroblastoma, carrying just a 40% chance of survival and effecting just 100 children a year on average in the U.K.
Over the following 18 months of treatment which included, Chemotherapy, a stem cell harvest and transplant, surgery, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and antibody treatment, Alice and her family stayed extensively in the hospital.
Alice battled the odds and is now in remission from the disease. Whilst there are no guarantees, she is doing very well. Jamie, John and Alan are supporting the charity in thanks for the incredible support received during Alice’s life-saving treatment.
The Charity are raising funds for the redevelopment of the cancer and leukaemia ward and the creation of a helipad on the roof of the hospital to enable seriously ill children to be airlifted straight to site rather than to a remote location. All of these initiatives will save and improve the lives of patients just like Alice.
We will be trekking at altitude over 4 days in the eastern Peruvian Andes to raise these funds. It will be a tough challenge in rough conditions and we are getting ourselves ready for the journey. Any support you could provide for us will spur us on knowing we have helped raise essential funds for an amazing institution. Many thanks.
