Story
Ok - this is a big one. Its Kilimanjaro ... and I'm 73 (and a half!). Not the oldest to have climbed the mountain but me legs, me knees and me hips haven't got quite the same spring in them as previous years ... so its not without risk. And definitely not guaranteed I'll get to the top. But here's the thing ... my son Joe is signed up for the challenge as well. So along with eight other fantastic Good Grief supporters, father and son will stride out fervently and passionately in honour
and memory of brother and son Joshua.
We do this challenge for Joshua. (He died in 2011 aged 22) But in a way just as importantly we do it to support other bereaved parents and siblings through The Good Grief Project. So it’s a fundraising challenge and all money we raise will help bereaved families on low incomes attend our Active Grief Weekends. These residential retreats are especially designed to support bereaved parents and siblings who have experienced the death of a child (of any age). The aim is to help them find new and creative ways of expressing their grief.
It costs around £14,000 to put on each weekend and while some parents can contribute to the cost (usually £250-£300 a head) we want to make them available to all, especially those on low incomes.
MY own fundraising target is £5895 (so £1 for every metre the summit of Kili is above sea level)
And every pound you can spare will help us provide valuable support for those who grieve for what many would describe as their worst nightmare, the death of a beloved son or daughter.
Thank you so so much ...
