Story
In honor of my daughter Kaitlyn, in June of 2023, I will be part of the Tour 21 team riding alongside 24 amateur cyclists as we look to complete all 21 days (2K miles) of the entire Tour de France route, one week ahead of the professionals. We will be raising over $1M in support of the cureleukemia organization’s fight to eradicate this terrible disease.
My oldest daughter, Kaitlyn, was diagnosed with leukemia when she was 3 years old. As you can imagine, it was a shock to our family’s life. She spent the better part of 3 years going through a regimen of chemotherapy and other treatments. The good news is today she is 27 and fully cured.
But that is only part of this girl’s story. When Kaitlyn was 12, she was struck by a drunk driver. On a Friday night, in a car with her best friend and her best friend's dad, a drunk driver ran a red light doing 55 miles per hour and crashed into their car. A horrific accident and a phone call that no parent wants to receive.
Kaitlyn was not supposed to survive the night. If she did, it was said she would not amount to much because of the extensive damage to multiple parts of her body. More importantly, she suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). This TBI will forever impact her mental capacity in areas of learning, memory, and processing abilities. But again, she is now 27, survived leukemia and a life altering accident, and she is doing terrific!
If it were not for organizations like cureleukemia, and people like you who are willing to donate money to this cause, we would not have our daughter today. But the good news is we do have you, and organizations like cureleukemia are making progress every day with lives saved.
