Story
In my previous profession I saw first hand the effect that Mental Health can have on people, often tragically dealing with self harm and even suicide on a nearly daily basis.
MIND are there to listen, and help people at anytime of day, they are an incredible charity; and one that I have decided to do my bit to raise awareness (and funds) for.
In November 2019 I made a successful summit attempt on Mt Kilimanjaro which is the highest freestanding mountain in the world standing at 5895m. This gave me the buzz for high mountain climbing and now I am addicted!
Phase two was delayed thanks to Covid but in July 2022 I made a successful summit attempt on Mt Toubkal in Morocco which stands at 4167m. Toubkal is a mountain that my Dad has summited in the past and one that was always high on my list to tick off.
In late October 2022 I travelled out to beautiful Nepal where I spent three weeks trekking out to the Everest Base Camp before making a successful summit attempt on Kala Patthar standing at 5550m. This trip was an absolute dream and cemented that I needed to head back soon to climb bigger, and more challenging peaks soon.
In 2023 I hit the training hard, climbing mountains all over the UK whilst learning to climb with axes, crampons and ropes as well as taking part in a 52km "Ultra" in the Peak District.
2024 has seen me run / walking from Newbury to Bath averaging 19 miles a day over three days as well as another 52km "Ultra" pushing myself both physically and mentally (while making sure I was at peak fitness) as my September plans were quite simply ... EPIC!
On the 21st September 2024 I headed back out to Nepal to push the boundaries once again with a summit attempt on the huge mountain Mera Peak standing at a massive 6476M.
The adventure was a huge challenge for me both mentally and physically as we were hit by the last of the Nepalese monsoon season making the summit attempt EXTREMELY difficult.
Despite the weather and challenges I am hugely proud to announce that at 06:37 hrs on Friday 4th October '24 I successfully summited Mera Peak becoming part of the 6k club making me one of the first to summit that season.
Having made it safely home I have already booked the next mountain and challenge - back to Morocco for Mt Toubkal standing at 4167m but this time in winter ice and snow conditions which I will be attempting late December '24 with my partner Zoe who will be pushing her boundaries on her first 4k + mountain
