Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So I've been working with GVI in Cape Town for about 14 months. At the end of this year I'll be moving on elsewhere (though still with GVI). Before I leave, I wanted to do a fundraising event to raise money for the Cape Town Community Projects, and so now I am.
On Saturday 4th December (so very soon), I'll be running a half marathon.
If you are one of the previous volunteers we have had here in South Africa, you'll know what I mean when I say that I'm sure you can think of a child who became your favourite. I know, you weren't supposed to have favourites, but everyone does. So please think of supporting that child when you think about supporting me in this fundraiser. Whether you volunteered at Ikhayalethemba, Nceduluntu, ACJ Primary, Bowy House, the Hope Centre or Jabulani, you know the value of supporting these sites and the many children they teach and care for.
If you haven't volunteered out here, take it from me that the orphaned, disadvantaged and vulnerable children we assist really do need our help. So please help me in trying to help give them a brighter future!
How much might you spend on a typical night out with friends? £30, US$40, AUS$50, or €40? Maybe more, maybe less. Could you go without spending this for one night and instead donate it towards helping these beautiful children? I think perhaps you could. It might not be much for you, but it can count for quite a lot out here.
So how about my end of the deal? Well...I haven't been doing any running for almost 4 years, so I'm badly out of practice! I'm in the middle of a very short (3 week) accelerated schedule to get myself up to speed. So believe me when I say that I am not going to find this run easy! In recognition of this, along with the worthy cause I'm raising money for, please do try to dig deep and be as generous as you can. Anything you can spare will be truly appreciated! :-)
Cheers
