Story
My son was born in Forth Park Hospital in August 2010.He was delivered by forceps, which caused serious damage to his spinal cord and this was also the cause of bleeding just below his brain. Due to these injuries this stopped him being able to breath on his own, and was put on to a ventolater. When my son was a day old, he was transfered to Sick Kids Hospital to have an MRI scan done. Rileys consultant then told us the heart breaking news about what was actually wrong with him, they told us they would do everything they could to try and help him and if nothing worked there would be no more they can do for him. As the days past, Rileys condition yoyo'd. We were told if Riley did make a recovery he would be in for months upon months, After a week and a half of waiting to find out if Riley was going to be ok, we were told the excellent news that he was responding to the treatment. After 3 weeks Riley came off his ventolater. He was then transfered from Intensive Care Unit, down to ward 7 where he then spent the next 2 weeks. Riley impressed all doctors and nurses with his speedy recovery. He was then discharged after spending his first 5 weeks of life in hospital. In november, Riley went for a follow up MRI scan so doctors can check for changes, His consultant then noticed that Riley had fluid around his brain, which then caused him to have a shunt put in, he then spent another number of weeks in hospital because of infections due to the shunt etc.
Riley now has life long problems. He can not use his right arm or can not walk just yet. He has came a long way since leaving the hopsital, and his cheeky little personality makes up for all the stuff he cant do.
While Riley was staying in hospital we were given accomodation from Sick Kids Friends Foundation. This made our stay at the hospital less traumatic and meant we could visit with him night and day which was very important to us especially while he was in intensive care.
I appreciate everything Sick Kids Hospital have done for myself and Rileys dad during Rileys stays in hospital. That is why I am doing this sponsor, to raise money for other families who have children in the hospital, so hopefully they can feel as supported as we did.
It would be great if you could donate, every little helps! :)
Thanks, Jillian x
