Story
On Sunday 3rd April 2022, I’ll be lacing up my running shoes, taking a deep breath and running the LLHM. It will be my second half marathon in 4 weeks, having run the Surrey Half on 6 March - so a Marathon in 2 Halves. I’m raising money for REDRESS - a charity I have got to know through their work on behalf of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.
REDRESS is an international human rights organisation that enables survivors of torture to bring legal cases to obtain justice and reparations for the violation of their rights, which is essential to their journey of recovery, and advocates for legal and policy reforms that deter its use around the world. Most notably, REDRESS campaigned for the return home of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, making necessary developments to her case since her arbitrary arrest and detention in 2016. Nazanin was reunited with her husband, Richard, and daughter, Gabriella on 17 March 2022 - exactly 6 years after she left the UK to visit her parents in Iran.
REDRESS ensures that survivors of torture are able to bring legal cases to obtain justice and reparations for the violation of their rights, which is essential to the survivor's journey of recovery, and advocates for legal and policy reforms that deter its use around the world. Your donations will support the REDRESS legal team’s ongoing casework. With many cases taking several years, REDRESS depends on this continued support to see cases through and to pursue the best course of action for its clients.
Any donation you can make would be much appreciated and your generosity will make such a difference to the work of the charity and, ultimately, to the survivors of torture they help. For example:
£10 would enable an initial referral or give a survivor access
to the information they need.
£25 would support with travel costs for a survivor to access psychosocial support.
£50 would make the legal session required to build a survivors’ case possible.
£100 would provide essential interpretation costs for a month.
£250 would allow REDRESS to promote cases and advocacy online.
£400 would cover necessary medical support for a month.
£500 would enable survivors to hold a community meeting.
£600 would cover casework fees for a month.
