Story
I now want to show that doing something like this - seemingly small-scale operation - can have far wider benefits, and raising money for a special charity seemed like the next step. If I can do it, then many others could do it too, for whatever special causes they support. It's not exactly hard to pick up litter - you don't have to run a marathon! (I've done a few of those, too!) BUT it does take quite a bit of commitment to do it every day - and by no means everyone would do it.
Part 2. My special charity support idea started with a rather unusual cast iron stag's head coat hook! I spotted it for sale on a local Facebook site and thought it would make an ideal Christmas present. The seller was a lovely young lady called Hollie Owen. We discovered when we went to collect it, that she sells items to raise money for the charity Scleroderma and Raynaud's UK, because she herself nearly died from Scleroderma and was only saved by a heart transplant. SRUK helped her enormously. Her Dad John is also a huge supporter of the charity and helps Hollie with her fundraising. He has also become a good friend to us, and I felt it would be really great to help raise some extra funds for a charity that I certainly had no idea about, and in support of such a brave family.
I'm hoping that everyone who has seen me picking up litter all year will support me in this fundraiser. If everyone who has been following me this year could donate a bit I would hope i will reach my £1000 target easily. It might seem a little thing picking up 10 pieces of litter a day but i think it could become a very BIG thing! Please help me, Hollie and SRUK.
