Story
On the 7th August we are taking part in this year’s ‘Battle Cancer Manchester’ to raise money for Breast Cancer Now.
Battle Cancer is a functional fitness event comprising of high intensity workouts, weights and functional fitness. We are entering as a team of 4 (myself, Stew, Katie and her husband Ian) and will be competing with other teams aiming to raise as much money as possible for Breast Cancer Now.
Breast Cancer Now are a charity that’s steered by world-class research and powered by life-changing care. They are there for anyone affected by breast cancer, the whole way through, providing support for today and hope for the future.
Breast Cancer has affected both of our families. In September 2019 my little sister Nicola was diagnosed with grade 3 Triple Negative breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy in October 2019 with a total node clearance. She started chemo in January 2020 and completed it in April 2020 and then had a mastectomy in May 2020. She completed 15 rounds of radiotherapy in August 2020. Unfortunately the cancer returned in February 2021 in her liver and spine. Nicola lost her fight on March 10th 2021 at the age of 35. Nicola really wanted to raise money for this charity and so we are determined to raise as much money as we can.
In January 2019 Katie was also diagnosed with grade 3 triple positive breast cancer, she underwent 6 rounds of Chemotherapy, had a mastectomy and will continue to have preventative, hormone therapy. She has just been accepted as a volunteer for this amazing charity.
The amount we raise adds to our scores on the leaderboard on the day, so if you are able to support and donate to this cause, you will also be helping us to get a headstart on the day
We would also love it if on the day we had a full squad either competing spectating or both.
If you’re tempted to get involved in August, but went to sample some of the workouts before you commit, On Monday 7th June, Battle Cancer will be running a Box Takeover night at OL1 from 4:30pm onwards.
