Story
Having witnessed domestic violence as a child and also as an adult this cause is one I am passionate about. The ripples of the effects are far reaching and have stayed with me for life.
I first met Jane, Hannah, Jo, Kellie & Lindsay at an open evening volunteer recruitment evening.
Their passion, tenacity and commitment to help those suffering domestic abuse is what has inspired me to raise funds so that we can continue to improve.
SSP a local charity evolved after yet another fatality, the founder Jane Broome set up SSP after one of her daughter's friends was killed by her ex-partner.
Dedicated volunteers offer non judgemental help, support and hope to all those affected by relationship or family abuse, including historical abuse, uniquely all the volunteers have survived abuse.
SSP offer support via the helpline Facebook page and Twitter.
A drop In session in key areas in Salford where clients can attend 1:1 sessions and groupwork, in a safe, confidential setting, 5 days a week.
Support is also given with mandatory assessments e.g. DWP
Clients can be supported at court, receive counselling and help & advice to flee dangerous situations.
Enpowerment courses are also ongoing giving clients information and building confidence to increase self esteem, clients can visualise a life without abuse.
Sadly in Salford we have lost many to Domestic abuse the latest being Baby Zakahri Bennet-Eko his life snatched away just as it had begun. Thrown from a bridge into a river by his father ........a tragedy unimaginable before it happened.
Domestic abuse has to STOP ! No excuses,
The chains of Domestic abuse must be broken, learnt behaviour must be challenged and unlearnt.
It may not happen quickly, we need to talk about abuse in all its forms, people have a right to live without fear especially in their own homes.
If you are living in an abusive situation , keep safe and in your own time seek help.
Love 💜 Hope 🦋 And Courage 💜
