Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Once again I have signed up for some races this year to help raise money for East Cheshire Hospice who provided excellent care for my great friend Liz and continue to provide that care for all who need it.

This year's races:

MARCH:

Mad Dog 10k Southport 19.03.23 ✔️ First run after Covid, pleased with my time, much improved from recent 10ks.

APRIL:

Run the Wall Dubrovnik 29.04.23 ✔️Wow, wow, wow! What an experience. Steep steps up, steep steps down and plenty of them! Absolutely amazing views and a unique race - and a challenge that I thoroughly enjoyed. Back next year I think!

Dubrovnik 5k 30.04.23 ✔️Hot and hilly but very scenic , loved every minute, what a place to run!!

MAY:

Run Middlewich 5k 14.05.23 ✔️A hot, sunny day running by the canal, including running up the 3 locks. Two laps of the cricket pitch to finish was tough but loved the medal!

Manchester 10k 21.05.23 ✔️A very hot day, giving Mo a head start! Managed to run about 7k then the heat of the day took over so it was a run walk to the finish, but I thoroughly enjoyed one of my favourite races. Great to see lots of other East Cheshire Hospice runners along the route too.

JUNE:

Leeds 10k 18.06.23 ✔️Another hot one, but brilliantly organised with lots of water, water sprays and wet sponges. Lovely route through Headingley. I kept a steady pace most of the way and ended up running just behind the 1.20 pacers. I managed to run this race 12 minutes faster than last year’s Leeds 10k and bagged myself a 10k PB. One of my favourite races, loved the whole experience!

Tatton Park Race for Life 5k 25.06 23 ✔️ Hottest race so far, no PBs today but Tatton Park was as lovely as ever. Crowded, dusty, hilly and lots of grass.

JULY:

Wilmslow summer 10k 09.07.23✔️I’ve only ever done the festive version of this race in the freezing cold so it was lovely to run the route in the sunshine. The morning definitely became hotter as the race progressed. Lovely route through the Cheshire countryside, with lots of very big houses to admire! I did it again and managed to knock nearly 3 minutes off my 10k PB which I’m really pleased about. And the medal is fab!

AUGUST:

Ellesmere 10k 27.08.23 ✔️Race started on grass which is energy sapping. 10k through country lanes and along the canals in Shropshire. Another 10k PB plus a 5k PB too. Refreshments not to shabby either!

SEPTEMBER: No September races. Was going to be doing Heaton Park or Tatton 10k but a pesky bug bite at parkrun has stopped me running. Hopefully I’ll soon be back on track for my October races.

OCTOBER:

I’m taking part in Squatober, a squat challenge organised by the Hospice. The number of squats per day increases until on the final day I have to do 150, making a total of 2,250 for the month!

Manchester half 15.10.23 ✔️Wow! What a fantastic race. Beautiful sunshine all the way, fantastic support with lots of jelly babies along the route. A different route to the ones I’d run before and much improved. Ran my fastest 10k and knocked 20 minutes off my half marathon PB which I set at this race in 2017. Brilliant medal too. Signed up for next year already!

Macclesfield 10k 29.10.23✔️ Another lovely well organised race, running close by the hospice then onto the picturesque village of Prestbury. There were hills, steep ones but that didn’t stop me getting another 10k PB. Great medal, great support from the marshals and fab route. Definitely one I’d do again despite the hills!

NOVEMBER:

Wilmslow Festive 10k 26.11.23✔️Freezing cold morning but a fantastic race. Despite my lace coming undone and having to stop to tie it I managed to knock over 4 1/2 minutes off my Wilmslow summer 10k time and knock another 3 minutes off my 10k pb! Lovely medal too!

DECEMBER:

Northwich Running Club. Festive Fun Run 3k 17.12.23 ✔️Final run of this year’s fundraising 3k around Marbury Park. It’s marathon training long run day so I then did another 14k run along the canal to Barnton and back.

Thanks to everyone for their support this year.

The hospice receives less than 17% of their running costs from the government so need to raise 80% of their costs each and every day to provide the great care which I saw first hand when Liz spent her final days there.
