Story
The aim of the Challenge is to increase awareness of the issues and to raise £250,000 for Street Child United to enable it to continue its crucial work with legacy projects in all the countries competing in the 2018 Street Child World Cup and more in the next four years before Qatar 2022. My target is £14,000, which I want to smash.
The Street Child World Cup in May provides a platform for the voices of girls and boys who have been at risk on the streets. In many cases they do not even have a birth certificate.. But they are "somebody". And everyone deserves the basic human right of officially "existing".
During the Street Child World Cup they produced a Manifesto - a vital document that will tell the world what they need in order to leave the streets behind.
Myself and 2 other volunteers hope/plan to arrive in Moscow ahead of the Opening Ceremony of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. During Challenge14, we will take the Manifesto to all 14 European qualifiers, and have enlisted the help of football clubs such as PSG and Barcelona en route. We will complete a marathon in each city, on consecutive days, from 1-14 June - a physical, mental and logistical challenge! It is 591km of walking but over 16,500km of travel in 14 days.
Football should be and can a power for good. In this case, the richest federation, UEFA, and some of the biggest clubs on the planet, supported by top players and famous ex-players, can help to achieve that aim.
By supporting this challenge Street Child United can ensure an even greater legacy from the 2018 FIFA World Cup than anything that happens on the pitch and we are all proud to play our part by walking across the continent.
The Route: London, Brussels, Paris, Zurich, Belgrade, Zagreb, Berlin, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Reykjavik, Stockholm, Lisbon, Barcelona, Moscow
