Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My Employer (Jewson Ltd) have chosen Macmillan Cancer Support to be their Charity Partner to which, I wish to spend as much time possible to raise money for this great cause, that affects 1 in 3 people at some stage in their life.

I was thinking of competing in half marathons or mammoth bike rides (even mountain challenges) however, a past footballing knee injury prevented such challenges (phew)!

Jewson has over 600 branches throughout the UK to which there are 38 branches within Wales.

The challenge is to visit every Jewson branch in Wales during the Jewson Charity Partnership Week, which is from Monday 10th - Friday 15th March.

I will be completing this in my own time (holiday leave), paying for fuel and funding any additional costs such as accommodation, food and so on.

Total distance = 690 miles (subject to not getting lost).

Total travelling time = 19 hours (again, subject to not getting lost).

Shortest distance from one branch to the next branch = 0.6 miles (1 minute).  Llangefni (4402) to Llangefni (898).

Longest distance from one branch to the next = 68.3 miles (1hr 43 minutes).  Chirk (899) to Builth Wells (491), which is also the final stretch of my journey (finishing line).

All the Jewson branches within Wales (in order of visiting, and branch numbers next to it) are:-

Builth Wells (491), Newport (654), Cardiff (4010), Cardiff (650), Cardiff (582), Aberdare (689), Caerphilly (752), Barry (742), Bridgend (762), Bridgend (838), Swansea (682), Llanelli (684), Carmarthen (493), Narberth (840), Tenby (499), Pembroke (837), Haverfordwest (835), Haverfordwest (495), Fishguard (679), Crymych (494), Cardigan (833), Llandysul (496), Lampeter (743), Aberaeron (739), Aberystwyth (490), Penrhyndeudraeth (504), Pwllheli (505), Holyhead (897), Llangefni (4042), Llangefni (898), Bangor (896), Llandudno (332), Llandudno (4043), Rhyl (395), Denbigh (329), Buckley (388), Wrexham (4040), and Chirk (899).

Please see my photograph's section for detailed maps and all other updates throughout challenge.

The journey will be clockwise starting from Builth Wells branch heading South East to Newport branch, then West along the M4 motorway then North all the way up the Wales Coastline, up as far as Holyhead then Eastwards along the North coast and heading Southwards bound to Builth Wells branch (starting point).

When visiting each branch a picture must be taken of the branch visiting with Jewson staff which must also include the Manager or Assistant Manager.

Whilst travelling from one Jewson branch to another, an inter-branded Company product (NOVIPro) must be delivered to the next destination and included in the photograph taken, along with the Macmillan banner and the Charity mascot (penguin).

I also get the chance to follow the beautiful Welsh coastline all the way around for the first time ever.

This is also a personal goal of mine as I have not visited over half of the Jewson Wales branches whilst working for Jewson (19 Years in total).

I am hoping to learn a lot during my travels with regards to my fellow managers/friends.  I will also get to see big differences with regards to branch/site size differences and diversity across the branch network.

Live updates during challenge will be through the Builth Wells branch Facebook page www.facebook.com/jewsonbuilthwells and the branch Twitter page www.twitter.com/jewsonbuilth

You can donate on this page or by Text Message (SMS), sending JEWS99 and amount donating (£1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10) to 70070.

Example; JEWS99 £5

IMPORTANT: If donating by text you will get a text back thanking you for donating.  You must follow the link on this page to add gift aid, which after confirming you're a UK tax payer will give Macmillan Cancer Support an extra 25p in every £1 donated.

Our challenge this Year is for every site within Saint Gobain UK (including Jewson), to raise just £27 as a minimum for Macmillan.

Why £27?  If every site raises £27, we will have raised over £250,000 which would be a fantastic start to the partnership and could provide 926 hours of vital Macmillan nursing time to people in need.

Thank you for your time to read my story,

Lee Jarvis
