Story
So many people have been affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s and know how cruel these illnesses can be.
My good friend, Fiona Murray, recently shared her family's heartbreaking news that her lovely dad has been diagnosed with mixed vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Fiona has told me how her once fun loving and hardworking dad has deteriorated at an alarming rate. Although she's juggling a busy job with helping to look after her dad, she's also decided to celebrate her birthday this year by walking 26 miles in the Lake District to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society and I'm delighted to be joining her team, The Murray Monsters. We each have to raise a minimum of £300 for our places.
I have walked 26 miles before and it was pretty tiring! But, the challenge for me this time, will be to travel to the Lake District after a week's work, set off on the walk at 6 am on Saturday morning, trek over a much more hilly terrain than I'm used to and return on Sunday ready for a week at work - just in case you're wondering whether I've earned your donation!! I'll be posting training updates.
I really appreciate your support - all donations very welcome. They all add up. There's nothing I can do to ease the heartbreak faced by Fiona and her family right now but, with your support, maybe other families won't have to go through this in the future. Thank you. X
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
