Fundraising for Sheffield Hospitals Charity
We want to ensure that the Jessop Wing and its staff remain among the best in the country, but we need your help to do it! By sponsoring us, the money raised will help to improve the care and treatment of babies and their families at the Jessop Wing.
Our son Oakley was brought into the world early via emergency c section at Jessops Wing Sheffield at only 27+1 weeks into my pregnancy weighing a tiny 2lb 3oz. Obviously it was an extremely scary, overwhelming and worrying time for us as a family.
Oakley's premature arrival was due to PPROM (premature preterm rupture of membranes), which led to infection and maternal sepsis as active established labour had began with Oakley in a breach presentation. This led to the safest route of delivery which was an emergency c section under general anesthetic. When Oakley was born weighing a tiny 2lb 3oz he had no heart rate and despite being rushed to the recusitaire and given ventilation breathes, he was not breathing at all for over 4 minutes. Oakley was then stabilised and intubated before being transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Jessops. During his time at Jessops Oakley's care was amazing, they saved his life. He received the most amazing care, the use of specialist equipment and underwent many tests, procedures and treatments for his underdeveloped lungs and organs and infections such as bacterial meningitis. Oakley spent two weeks being cared for in Jessops NICU before being stable enough to transfer to our local Neonatal unit in York where he spent many more weeks.
I was transferred to Jessops Wing Sheffield at 26 weeks into my pregnancy due to our local neonatal unit (York SCBU who we are also extremely thankful for) being unable to take a baby of such an early gestation. As I was at risk of premature labour Oakley was transferred out in utero via embrace the neonatal ambulance service to Jessops Wing where they take babies of such an early gestation.
We are so thankful and grateful that thanks to the staff, equipment and services at Jessops Wing. Oakley was safely brought into the world 13 weeks early and we are so pleased that thanks to the care he received he is now home safe and happily enjoying life with his family.
We are joining in raising money for the NICU at Jessops Wing by asking for donations to sponsor us in doing the superhero walk to help say thank you and to give something back to the Jessops Superheroes who helped save our mini Superhero Oakley!
