London Landmarks Half Marathon 2024 · 7 April 2024 ·
In 1994 my Grandad James Hewitt was first diagnosed with AML (acute myeloid leukaemia) and received wonderful treatment and care from UCLH, who successfully treated his cancer, giving him 22 wonderful years in remission until his second diagnosis in 2016.
Without the incredible treatment and research by UCLH the first time around, I would have never known my Grandad, and I am eternally grateful for the support and care they gave him and my family during his time under their care before his passing in 2017.
7 years later, I'm taking the opportunity of a new challenge and running my first half marathon, hoping I'll be able to raise some money in his memory, to allow UCLH Cancer Fund to give others the time we got to have with their loved ones.
So please, if you are able to, any donation will be so appreciated; thank you.
Over 14,000 people every year are treated for cancer at University College Hospital, and this number is rising annually. Our patients come from across the UK though mostly from north London, Hertfordshire and Essex. University College Hospital aims to ensure that all people with cancer, and their families and carers receive a world-class service from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. To achieve this aim and to support our patients, we have created the University College Hospital Cancer Fund which assists with important areas of work above and beyond what the NHS is able to provide.
