Story
My name is Jessica Young and I’m 16 years old. In march 2021 my mum was diagnosed with liver, lung and kidney cancer after having pains in her side and went into hospital searching for an answer for the unknown pain.
My mum was always a bubbly, kind generous woman and brought me and my younger brother up to do the same. She seemed positive when she received her diagnosis and that filled us with great hope for the future. She was given 1-2 years to live but within 2 weeks of her diagnosis she had moved to Myton hospice Coventry for a rest in the hope of getting her strength up to return home and she was given 6-9 months.
However, within 2 days of this awful news her stay at Myton was an end of life care plan. The staff at Myton were so welcoming and friendly which made us and my mum very calm and comfortable.
A weeks later, on the 30th March 2021 at 3.55pm my mum took her last breath. As a 16 year old girl this was incredibly tough for me as I didn’t have my rock anymore, I didn’t have my best friend, I didn’t have that warm embrace that solved everything.
In the past few months, as a family we have raised a lot of money for Myton Hospice especially Coventry Myton hospice but I decided I wanted to do something myself, something that would make my mum proud.
On the 2nd of April 2022, just 2 days after my mums 1 year anniversary and 7 days before my 17th birthday, I will be taking part in Glow for Myton which is a neon / 80’s themed run, dance or walk in aid of raising funds for Myton Hospice. I will be talking at this event about my mums story in depth and how your money helped us when we needed it most and what an impact you can have on families like mine.
So please if you can donate I will be forever be grateful, even if it’s just £1, everything counts!!
Thank you so much for reading and I really hope I can do my mum proud 💕🥺
