Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page
My aim is to complete this challenge i've set for myself from April 1st to May 1st 2021.
The aim is to complete 1km a day pushing myself in my wheelchair everyday for the whole month.
The motivation for me doing this. Is because i'd like to raise money for BEAT this is a national eating disorders charity.
Also i would like to raise awareness around all the different types of eating disorders not just the most commonly known or eating disorders that are stereotyped within the media.
I myself have battled anorexia for 9 years and my battle continues and it's far from over, it's not easy but it's a battle i will continue because i believe one day i will win and that's my goal. But unfortunately over the years i have lost many friends to this illness who i had got to know personally over the years. but sadly many more who i had met through hospital admissions in different eating disorder units.
There needs to be more awareness around all different types of eating disorders. for people to know where they can go for help and how they can reach out when they know they need more help. eating disorder help should be widely available and should be available to ANYONE with an eating disorder. they should be able to receive help and shouldn't have to meet a certain BMI criteria or live in a certain postcode.
''eating disorders are a mental illness with the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness"
From personal experience in eating disorder units both adolescents and adults. After discharge i became aware of the complete lack of aftercare within the community.
If the level of aftercare was greatly improved this could help reduce the level of readmission rates and could cut down the need for hospital admissions. and many lives could be saved if more funding was available. This could be in the form of medical monitoring, psychological support as well as an OT offering things like exposure therapy.
The money that i raise will go directly to BEAT. which will then be able to help with various services they run; such as, the different helplines, online web chats, events and much more. BEAT can also offer support to a carer or parent of someone with an eating disorder and this can then help with the dynamic of recovery and allow the family or carer to seek the necessary support.
