LEO JAMES O'CONNOR

5TH AUGUST 2010 - 19TH AUGUST 2011

My little Leo the lion was born in water at the RUH in Bath. 2 weeks after his birth he was taken back into hospital with suspected spots and was kept in for 7 days on a course of antibiotics.

All was then presumed fine and we went home

But little did we know that HOSPITAL was going to be a regular feature in our lives.  At 2 and a 1/2 months (Oct 2010) Leo caught chicken-pox. By the 18th Oct,  the chicken- pox had got progressively worse and we rushed him to the Hospital with suspected septicemia.  Within 24hrs his situation had got worse still, the septicemia had gone to his brain and also a diagnosis of meningitus had been given. We were all rushed  to the Intensive care ward at  the Bristol Childrens Hospital.  Leo was kept in a closed room as they had never seen such a bad case of chicken-pox.

The stay in Bristol was one we thought may not turn out well; but we prayed and we prayed, and we cried and then we prayed some more.

Our prayers must have been heard, as Leo got better very slowly. We had our Miracle!

The stay in Bristol lasted just short of two months and we got home for the christmas month.  Leo seemed to have recovered remarkably from the meningitus but was left with slight epilepsy from the septicemia.

In January 2011, Leo had a month of spasms brought on by the weaning of his medication.

Again, we spent 7 days at the Bristol Childrens Hospital and on discharge, Leo's medication changed and all was well again!!!

On the 12th April, Leo was having problems breathing and so we took him straight to Hospital in Bath. His diagnosis was pneumonia. Leo made a speedy recovery and was discharged a week later.

We get to go home...

All was well, and we had a beautiful time together.

On the week of Leo's 1st birthday he got very poorly again and we took him to Hospital in Bath.  Again, the diagnosis was pneumonia.

During his stay at Hospital in Bath, Leo got progressively worse and was taken to Bristol Childrens Hospital around the 11/12th August.

From that moment Leo never got better and went to heaven on the 19th August 2011.

God bless all at Bristol Childrens Hospital who battled to save his life and do such great work every day.
