As a child, there were many times in my life where we were certainly underprivileged. My single mother worked very hard and even had up to 3 jobs at one point, to help support me, my disabled Aunt, and two cousins. Money was tight and unfortunately there are many out there that share a very similar story or are living it right now.
I recall one Christmas when I was around 10 years old, someone brining us bags of toys. My cousins and I were so excited! It really brightened up our Christmas because we knew that Mom did not have the means to provide us everything she would have wanted to.
I share my story because this is what drove me to get involved in the YMCA, to serve and become a part of this Board. I want to ensure programs like the one I benefitted from still exist, for children who need it. Right here in Montgomery County there are kids growing up just like me. Everyone deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive, regardless of their ability to pay.
That's my story, now here is my ask:
Please consider making a donation to the YMCA. All dollars raised through the JustGiving link below stay exclusively in the community served by the Holcomb Family Y, and every single dollar raised in this campaign is spent solely on service and support programs.
Instead of grabbing coffee a few times this week or lunch, you can sponsor 10 school supply-filled backpacks for those in need, or even help underwrite a teen mental health support group.
If we want to see the change, we must be the change!
Kindly,
Jessica Lovell
