This year I've begun a new volunteering venture, with
Self Injury Support (formerly Bristol Crisis Service for Women)!
Based in Bristol, this amazing charity provides support to women who self-injure. I have completed training to take calls on their helpline, which is currently open for a couple of hours a few days a week, providing a confidential listening service to women who self-injure and are in need of someone to talk to.
As well as the helpline, SIS also provide:
- text and email support for girls and young women (TESS)
- information and publications about self-injury
- talks and self-injury training courses for professionals
- support for self-injury self-help groups
As some of you may already know, this is a cause which is very personal to me. I have a history of self-harm and mental illness, and I wish more than anything that I had been able to access a service like this one 10 years ago! I hope you'll consider supporting me to help support the work that SIS do. If it helps, this is what your donation will achieve:
- £2- covers the cost of us sending text/email messages to 30 girls and young women.
- £5- for a rainbow journal to be sent out to a young person affected by self-injury.
- £10- We can send out free packs of information about self-injury to 8 individuals who self-injure and their friends and family.
- £30- Covers a member of staff going into a school to talk about self-injury.
Thanks so much for your time! And wish me luck :D
