In september 2014 our Mum and wife was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. She underwent an imense amount of treatment to manage her condition. At the beginning of 2015 she became very poorly and spent a month at Michael Sobell House, the hospice at Mount Vernon Hospital. She beat the odds and pulled through and carried on with her life while living with the condition and pain being managed while receiving chemotherapy. Mum/Barbara then became seriously ill again in July when we found out the cancer had grown and spread. She received excellent treatment and care at Michael Sobell House, where she was given more treatment to fight the cancer and control the pain. Unfortunately, Mum/Barbara became weaker and her condition deteriorated and her treatment was stopped. On 3rd October 2015, she died peacefully in her sleep with Dad, Tom, Alice and I all asleep with her. The care Mum/Barbara received from everyone at Michael Sobell House - nurses, clinical support workers, doctors, physios, volunteers, porters - everyone - was abosultely amazing. The nurses and clinical support workers were so compassionate and supportive to us as a family and have really helped us to cope. It's impossible to do the staff and the work that they do justice in a few words here, but they are exceptional people who are very special and work incredibly hard to give people a dignified and as pain free a death as possible. We are asking for donations in Mum's/Barbara's name to Michael Sobell House to raise as much money as possible for this wonderful place. Thank you. David, Tom, Alice & Jess
