Story
In memory of Betty Balfour
My grandmother sadly passed away on the 11 May 2020. She was loved by so many people and in return, she gave those that loved her so much love and support back.
I truly believe that everyone who had the privilege of meeting my grandmother was touched by her warmth and kindness - she would go out of her way for anyone.
Before her accident, my grandmother would be always be up to something - she spent weekends away with her beloved sister, spent time with me going to restaurants and on holidays and also spent time helping her daughter make her garden look just as beautiful as hers. My grandmother would do anything to make her loved ones know that she cared - she delivered food packages to me on the bus to my university residence and she would walk her sons dogs while he was at work. She truly was the life and soul of the party and she was the glue that held us all together.
Sadly, in 2016, she suffered a serious accident which left her paralysed from the neck down. Her life, as she knew it, was completely turned upside down. She spent a considerable amount of time in the Royal Princess Spinal Ward at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield where she was treated. As a family, we believe that the care she received during her stay is what kept her with us as long as she did - and in that time, they gifted us precious time to spend with her, and for her to spend with us. She was given first class care and received all the support she needed to return home once she was prepared to do so. We would like to give a special mention to Lexi and team for allowing my grandmother to enjoy life to the full while she was in their care by allowing her to go on days out.
We have asked as a family that you do not buy flowers for her passing. We ask that you make a donation to the Royal Princess Spinal Ward via this JustGiving page - however big or small. My grandmother loved to help people in need and we believe that this will allow her to make one last big impact towards helping the lives of others that find themselves suffering with the same disability as my grandmother did.
