Story
After a night of a few too many beers, what do you do? Impulse buy an inflatable unicorn 🦄 , buy a one way ticket out of here.....or sign up to a half marathon?
Having wanted to push myself a little out of my comfort zone, it turns out a bit of dutch courage is what I needed! 🍺
I've always hated running and I'm far from a natural athlete ,yet here I am hoping to survive the Oxford Half Marathon.
...now when you already know this is a terrible idea, let's add an additional element of pressure and sign up with just 10 weeks to prepare! 🤣
🌟 Luckily the motivation for this challenge and fundraising comes in abundance! 🌟
My Granda, one of the closest people to me in this world and biggest supporters went completely blind in 2020.
Ultimately being told that your sight has deteriorated or has gone for good is always going to be an extraordinarily difficult challenge and life changing moment for anyone but the RNIB aims to support as soon as possible to maintain your independence. This might be with helpful tools for the home or offering advice and support events.
The aim of the game is to make society more accessible for the blind!
Sight is a huge part of life as you know it but its not everything either, you will always be a Granda, a Friend, a Mother, an Academic, a Comedian, an Astronaut.....everything you have always been! This does not define you or take any accomplishments away.
So this run is for everyone out there with sight loss, visual impairment and blindness - Hopefully this fundraising can help continue the work the RNIB is already completing!
