I'M RUNNING A MARATHON!
... And I need your support to keep me motivated!
In April 2018 I'll be running the Brighton Marathon in the company of my good friend Jack (probably for about a mile before he picks up the pace and I jog happily behind). We will be running in support of two charities that raise money to support brain research and breast cancer care.
Why these two charities?
Those of you who know me will know that the past few years have dealt some pretty rubbish cards... And those of you who don't, I hope you have a time to spend a minute reading my fundraising story and can spare a few pennies to donate to improving research and supporting treatment for those who have suffered a brain injury or cancer.
I'll try to keep it short...
In January 2015 my mum suffered a massive Stoke and was rushed to hospital in the early hours of the morning. I kept a diary about the few months that followed, brain surgery, intensive care, removal of feeding tube, rehab and finally going home. Recovery is slow and our Mum continues to work hard to try and regain any movement on the left side of her body that currently refuses to work! The pathways that control this function were damaged as a result of her Stoke, currently there is no cure to reconnect these pathways. I can't read that diary, but I can raise money to support Brain Research that one day could make the fight more even.
Why two charities?
Well, I'm lucky, I have two mums. My Step Mum who 20 years ago not only committed to marrying my dad but committed to welcoming me into her life and raising me as her own. This year, very recently, my Step mum was diagnosed with Stage 2 Lobular Breast Cancer. There's a treatment plan and a fight through recovery but she's strong! Raising money for Breast Cancer Care will support their vision for every person affected by breast cancer to get the best treatment, information and support.
If you made it to the end of my fundraising story, thank you! Let's hope I make it to the end of the run... And not too far behind Jack!
A penny, a pound... Any donations are much appreciated!
